Most people are new to the web industry. Novice users should not be fooled by big businesses offering large server space for big bucks. Chances are, if you're operating a startup, you don't need 1 terabyte of space (and according to some companies, unlimited space).

Depending on what you are operating, you may only need a couple gigabytes of hard drive. To calculate your estimated space, figure how many pictures you will be posting. Multiply that number by the average picture size (typically between 400 and 1000 KB). This number will become your picture product. Next, calculate your video product by multiplying the number of videos by the average video size. Repeat the process for files (HTML, PHP, CSS, etc.) and finally add up your picture product with your video product and with your files product. This is your current estimated file size. Multiply this estimate by two and you should have a close estimate on how much space you need.
